Coralsa keeps selling Río Zaza products
The ICC’s dissolution of Max Maram-bio’s Alimentos Río Zaza and liquidation of its assets technically means the firm and its products no longer exist.
Try telling that to the Castro regime.
As far as Havana is concerned, even though its Chilean partner, Max Marambio, is not only out of the picture, but is wanted by the Cuban authorities, the Río Zaza company is still in business.
And its products, from Tropical Island fruit juices to Doña Tina tomato purees and other products like regular and evaporated milk, yogurt, mayonnaise and cereals are still being manufactured in Cuba.
During last month’s Havana International Trade Fair (FIHAV), state-run Corporación Alimentaria SA (Coralsa) pitched these products to prospective overseas buyers.
Coralsa marketing chief Nancy Alejano also showed FIHAV participants Bravo-brand ham and other meats, which are produced in a joint venture with Spain’s Provalca (Proyectos de Valencia en el Caribe).
Other ventures include Piñata instant fruit drinks (made by the Canadian-Cuban joint venture Coracan S.A.), Papas and Co. mayonnaise, sauces and snack foods, and Ciego Montero bottled water and soft drinks (made by Los Portales SA, a joint venture Coralsa has with the Néstle group).
There’s also Bucanero brand beer (a joint venture originally made with Coralsa and Canadian brewer Labatt.
Along with their presence in Cuba’s “dollar stores,” such items can be bought by Cuban-Americans for their relatives at on-line supermarkets such as www.mallhabana.com, www.supermarket.-treew.com, www.cubaregalosonline.-com, www.carlos-tercero.ca, and cubaentrega.com.
Even Cuban holding firm Cimex, (which Marambio once helped establish) sells the same products online. So far, Coralsa has sold these food products and other goods to customers in Canada, Venezuela, Panama, various Caribbean islands and Europe.
